Lawmakers Extend Homebuyer Tax Credit Deadline

Last night, the Senate passed a three-month extension to the deadline to qualify for tax credits, giving buyers until September 30th to complete their deals. In addition. the House also approved a bill earlier this week.
The only thing standing in the way of the extension becoming official is President Obama's signature.
The Senate and House also have voted to renew the National Flood Insurance Program until September 30th. It's retroactive until June 1. The expiration has prevented buyers of homes in low-lying areas from closing on their deals.
The National Association of Realtors said 180,000 buyers nationwide -- and nearly 15,000 in Florida -- were in danger of not closing by the original June 30 deadline to qualify for the credits.
Remember, only people who signed sales contracts by April 30th can get the $8,000 or $6,500 tax rebates.
